شارككم مشروع أرشيف أكور الإلكتروني للصور والوثائق كل ما هو جديد ولمدة ثلاث سنوات مميزة باسم @acorarchives، ونحن الآن و مع نهاية الشهر الحالي (أيلول 2020) سينتهي المشروع

لكن ! لا داعي للذعر فلم ينتهي المطاف بنا هنا، إنها مجرد بداية جديدة!

يسرنا أن نعلن بأن أكور قد حصل على منحة من وزارة التربية والتعليم الأمريكية لمشروع "أرشيف أكور الإلكتروني للصور و الوثائق لمدة أربع سنوات أخرى، تحت عنوان: أرشيف أكور الرقمي: تطوير مصدر تعليمي متعدد الوسائط، و بما أننا نخطو نحو مشروع جديد سيتم تغير الاسم المسخدم @acorjordan حيث سنعرض مجموعة واسعة من أنشطة أكور في المستقبل

سيعمل المشروع على رقمنة مادة أرشيفية متعدد الوسائط (ملتيميديا) : من صور وتسجيلات صوت وفيديوهات وإتاحتها بشكل مجاني على شبكة الإنترنت. وسيتم تحميلها على موقع الأرشيف الذي تم إنشائه من قبل وتطويره ليصل العدد الاجمالي في الموقع إلى 50000 مادة أرشيفية في متناول يدك للتنزيل والمشاركة ولإعادة الإستخدام.

سنعمل بجد على زيادة النصوص الوصفية باللغة العربية، و تحسين عملية البحث عن الكلمات الرئيسية لتسهيل العثور على ما تبحث عنه سواء كنت طالباً تكتب بحثاً أو صانع أفلام أو معلم يعدُ درسه أو أكاديمي يبحث عن غلاف فني لكتاب.

علاوة على ذلك سنعزز العلاقات مع كليات المجتمع ومؤسسات خدمة الأقليات (MSIs) في الولايات المتحدة من خلال تقديم زمالات المعلمين عبر الإنترنت. سيُحضر هؤلاء الزملاء جماهير جُدد للمشاركة مع أرشيف أكور الرقمي من خلال تطوير المنهج الدراسي الخاص بهم حول القضايا الرئيسية ذات الصلة بالأردن و الولايات المتحدة كالتراث الثقافي و الإستدامة و السياحة.
نحن ممتنون جداً لجميع موظفي أكور و المتدربين و للمساهمين في مشروع أرشيف أكور للصور والوثائق ويسعدنا أن نقدمه على نطاقٍ أوسع للجمهور العالمي في المرحلة التالية.

We have news. The ACOR Photo Archive project that we have shared updates with you about for three amazing years as @acorarchives will come to an at the end of September 2020.

Don't panic. It’s not the end, just a new beginning!

ACOR has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Education for a new four-year project: “The ACOR Digital Archive: Developing a Multimedia Teaching and Learning Resource”. As we move to this new project, we will change our username to @acorjordan as we’ll be featuring a wider range of ACOR’s activities in future.

This project will process, #digitize and make freely available #multimedia objects - including #photos, #audio and #video recordings. These will be added to an upgraded #archive website, so almost 50,000 digital objects will be at your fingertips to download, share and re-use.

We’ll be seriously increasing the amount of Arabic-language description, and improving keyword search, to make it even easier to find what you are looking for, whether you are a #student writing a paper, a #filmmaker, an #educator preparing a class or an #academic looking for winning book cover art.

On top of that, we will be fostering relationships with #CommunityColleges and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) in the U.S. by offering online #EducatorFellowships. These Fellows will bring new audiences to engage with the ACOR Digital Archive by developing their #teaching curriculum around key issues relevant to Jordan and the U.S. such as #CulturalHeritage, #sustainability and #tourism.

We’re extremely grateful to all ACOR staff, interns, and contributors to the ACOR Photo Archive project and we are delighted to bring it to an even broader global audiences in this next phase.

For this #TriviaTuesday, we are going back in time

For this #TriviaTuesday, we are going back in time to the Early Bronze Age (3500–2000 BC) to look at #dolmens. The erection of dolmens (single-chamber tombs consisting of upright large stones, or megaliths, supporting a horizontal stone slab) was a common practice in this period, particularly east of the Jordan Valley. Dolmens found in Jordan today are typically located close to Early Bronze Age settlements (but not all Early Bronze Age settlements in Jordan have dolmens). This could relate partly to Jordan’s geology.

Villages with nearby dolmens were built on areas with underlying hard bedrock, making it easier to quarry the stone slabs for the tomb structures, whereas villages without dolmens are in areas with softer rock or soil. The picture below, from the Rami Khouri Collection at ACOR, was taken at the Early Bronze Age settlements near Juffain. سنعود بالزمن إلى العصر البرونزي المبكر (3500-2000 قبل الميلاد) للحديث عن الدولمن (يسميها بعض الناس في الوقت الحاضر بالمناطير). نُصب الدولمن الحجرية (هي مقابر ذات حجرة واحدة تتكون من صخور ضخمة منتصبة أو من صخور الميغاليث تحمل ألواح صخرية موضوعة بشكلٍ أفقي) كان تشييد الدولمنز ممارسة شائعة في هذه الفترة ولا سيما في شرق وادي الأردن تقع الدولمنز الموجودة في الأردن غالباً بالقرب من مستوطنات العصر البرونزي المبكر ( ولكن ليس كل مستوطنات العصر البرونزي المبكر في الأردن فيها دولمنز). يمكن أن يرتبط هذا جزئياً بطبيعة الجيولوجيا في الأردن، تم بناء القرى التي تقع بالقرب من الدولمنز في مناطق ذات قاعدة صخرية صلبة مما يسهل عملية استخراج الألواح الصخرية لبناء المقابر في حين أن المناطق التي لا يوجد فيها الدولمنز تعد منطقة ذات صخور وتربة لينة. أخذت الصورة أدناه من مجموعة رامي خوري المُهداة لأكور، تم التقاطها في مستوطنات العصر البرونزي المبكر بالقرب من موقع جفين

The city of Ma’an, located near both the ancient

The city of Ma’an, located near both the ancient King’s Highway and the modern Desert Highway, is truly a crossroads of past and present. This fort, pictured here in 1980 from the Linda K. Jacobs Collection, is just one example of Ma’an’s historic and strategic importance. The fort was built by the Ottomans—this is one of many such Ottoman forts in southern Jordan—and is located on the southeastern edge of the modern city. Other Ottoman forts in the area include Fassu’ah and Mudawwara, which is the southernmost settlement of Jordan.

هذه الصورة ملتقطو لحصن معان عام 1980 من مجموعة صور ليندا جاكوبس، وهو مثال واحد على الأهمية التاريخية والإستراتيجية لمدينة معان. تم بناء الحصن من قبل العثمانيين – وهو واحد من الحصون العثمانية العديدة الموجودة في جنوب الأردن – حيث يقع في الطرف الجنوبي الشرقي من المدينة الحديثة

ومن الحصون العثمانية الأخرى والتي تقع في جنوب الأردن منها المدورة وفصوعة

يسرنا الإعلان عن إطلاق مشروع "أرشيف صور مشروع (USAID SCHEP @usaidschep)" ضمن تعاون بين "مشروع استدامة الإرث الثقافي بمشاركة المجتمعات المحلية (USAID SCHEP)" والمركز الأمريكي للأبحاث الشرقية (ACOR).

تُعد الاستدامة ومشاركة المعرفة من أهم الأسس والمبادئ التي يسعى مشروع (USAID SCHEP) إلى تحقيقها ومشاركتها مع الجميع، ولهذا سعى مشروع (USAID SCHEP) إلى إطلاق مجموعته الخاصة على موقع أرشيف صور المركز الأمريكي للأبحاث الشرقية. سيركز المشروع على أرشفة صور مشروع (USAID SCHEP) من السنوات الأربع الأولى من أعماله (2014-2018) وتصنيفها وتحريرها وحفظها وإتاحتها للعامة ضمن أرشيف صور المركز الأمريكي للأبحاث الشرقية. ستكون هذه المجموعة متاحة للطلبة والباحثيين والعاملين والمهتمين في حماية الإرث الثقافي وغيرهم.
أما عن ماذا ستتناول هذه المجموعة من صور فسوف تعرض أعمال المشروع في تطوير مواقع أثرية في الأردن وأحدث طرق الحفاظ عليها ومشاركة أبناء المجتمعات المحلية في هذه العملية. ومن خلال هذا المشروع سيضمن المشروع من حماية أعمال مشروع (USAID SCHEP) وترسيخ منهجية عمله في الحفاظ على المواقع الأثرية للعامة وإلى مدى بعيد.

وفي هذا الصدد يسعدنا الترحيب في انضمام عضويين جديدين إلى عائلة المركز الأمريكي للأبحاث الشرقية للعمل ضمن طاقم المشروع وهما:
أشلي لومب، مؤرشف: عملت آشلي سابقاً لدى المركز الأمريكي للأبحاث الشرقية كمؤرشف منذ حزيران 2019 إلى آيار 2020. تحمل آشلي شهادة الماجستير في تاريخ التصوير الفوتوغرافي من جامعة سانت اندروز في اسكتلندا، وهي صاحبة خبرة واسعة في التصوير الفوتوغرافي وتنظيم وتخطيط المعارض والبحوث وأعمال الأرشفة الأخرى.

خديجة الفقير، مساعد مؤرشف صور وفيديو: تحمل خديجة درجة البكالوريس في هندسة الحاسوب من جامعة الحسين بن طلال، بالإضافة إلى العديد من الدورات المختصة في صناعة الأفلام وتحريرها. ولاهتمامها الكبير في حماية الإرث الأثري الأردني عملت خديجة في العديد من المشاريع المختصة في حماية الإرث الأثري الأردني وإدارة الفعاليات.

سيقوم المشروع بإطلاق مجموعته ضمن أرشيف المركز الأمريكي للأبحاث الشرقية في نهاية العام الحالي، لهذا ننصحك بمواكبة أخبارنا عبر منصاتنا على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي للاطلاع على آخر تطورات المشروع ومشاهدة مجموعة صور (USAID SCHEP) حين اكتمالها.

ACOR and USAID SCHEP are excited to announce the launch of the SCHEP Photo Archive Project! This pilot project will focus on compiling, editing, and storing selected photographs from the first four years of SCHEP (2014–2018) in order to make them available to the public as a special collection within the ACOR Photo Archive. The SCHEP Collection, like all of the collections in the online ACOR Photo Archive, will be freely accessible to students, researchers, practitioners, and any other interested parties.

This collection will showcase SCHEP-supported site development work at nine sites throughout Jordan, highlighting modern conservation methods and local community involvement. Sustainability and knowledge-sharing are key components of SCHEP, and this project will help to ensure that SCHEP’s work and its methodology are preserved and made accessible to all for many years to come.

We are also pleased to welcome two new staff members who will help to implement this project:

Ashley Lumb, who served as the ACOR project archivist from June 2019 to May 2020, has joined us as the SCHEP photo archivist. Ashley received her MLitt in the history of photography from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, and brings an extensive background in photography, exhibition planning, curation, research, and archival work.

Khadija Alfaqeer will be joining the team as the SCHEP photo and video archival assistant. Khadija has a BA in computer engineering from Al-Hussein Bin Talal University in Ma'an, Jordan, and has a background and additional coursework in filmmaking and editing. She is greatly interested in cultural heritage preservation and has previously worked in project and event management.

The SCHEP Collection at the ACOR Photo Archive will be launched at the end of this year, so keep an eye out for updates here and on ACOR’s social media channels!

The Sustainable Cultural Heritage Through Engagement of Local Communities Project (SCHEP) is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR).
